SC State Tennis Teams Post Non-Conference WIns Over SCAD

Lady Bulldogs improve to 2-1, while the men are 1-1 on the season.

ORANGEBURG, SC—The  South Carolina State men's and women's tennis teams posted a pair of non-conference victories over SCAD (Savannah  College of Art & Design), 6-1, 6-1, Friday at the SCSU tennis courts.
       The Lady Bulldogs claimed the doubles point early on in dominating fashion with Craciun/Dohnalova defeating Plavsic/Schumans (8-1) and Nakonechna/Barborikova (8-3) earning victories.  Khateci/Bosneag also won 8-3 over Viteri/Gonzales in doubles play.
      In singles action, senior Maria Craciun defeated M. Plavsic  in three sets 4-6,6-0,6-0 at the No. 1 spot; sophomore Katarina Barborikova def. M. Barragan , 6-1,4-6, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot; freshman Klara Dohnalova def. D. Arcila 6-3, 6-2; sophomore Victoriia Khatcei def. C. Viteri  6-1, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot; and at the No.6 spot  senior Laura Bosneag def. D. Gonzales, 6-1, 6-2.
        On the men's side the Bulldogs won the doubles point easily 8-1, 8-1 to claim an early advantage. In singles action at the No. 1 spot senior Peteris Vinogradovs def. J. Anton 6-2,6-3; senior Tomas junior Artemiy Nikitin def. P. Yellico 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot; senior Anton Protsenko  def. M. Mazimbe  6-0, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot; while newcomers freshman Jiri Stiburek (6-0, 6-2) at the No. 5 and Marius Dragoi (6-0, 6-1) at the No. 6 spot both earned  victories.
      The Bulldogs return to action on Feb. 20, when they travel to Spartanburg, SC to take on Wofford University in a 1 p.m. showdown, meanwhile the women hit the road on Feb. 22, to take on North Florida in an 11 a.m. contest.
