SC State Tennis Teams Split On The Road

NORFOLK,VA—The South Carolina State men's and women's tennis teams split a pair of victories on the road this weekend, when they battled MEAC foe Norfolk State Saturday.
       The Lady Bulldogs dominated the Lady Spartans, 7-0, to improve to 1-1 on the season, while the men dropped a tough 4-3 decision to fall to 0-1 in opening play.
       In women's action it was SC State captured the early doubles point with wins from Maria Craciun/Kiara Dohnalova def. Yvonne Kamegne/Andrea Macchiavello 8-0, and Kateryna Nakonechna/Katarina Barborikova winning over Laura Gutierrez/Mafalda Lhorca 8-2.
       Craciun also won in singles action at the No.1 spot defeating Andrea Macchiavello (7-5, 6-2), while teammate freshman Kateryna Nakonechna claimed victory at the No. 2 spot over Yvonne Kamegne 6-1, 6-3. Sophomore Katarina Barborikova won in three sets, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 over Laura Gutierrez at the No. 3 spot.
        Also , earning victories at the No.4 spot were freshman Kirara Dohnalova winning 6-1, 6-1 over Mafalda Lhorca; sophomore Victoriia Khatcei defeated Kia Batiste, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot and senior Laura Bosneag won, 6-1, 6-1 over Rebecca Graff.
       On the men's side, the Bulldogs claimed the doubles point with Peteris Vinogradovs/Marius Dragoi defeating Pete Pello-Rastromer/Dzmitry Zyhmantovich, 8-6 and Artemiy Nikitin/Anton Protsenko winning over Robin Riethmueller/Igor Braga 8-6.
       In singles action junior Artemiy Nikitin defeated Pete Pello-Rastromer, 6-3, 6-1 and freshman Marius Dragoi knocked off Samuel Lemberger in three sets 7-6, 7-4, and 6-0.
       South Carolina State returns to action when they host SCAD (Savannah School Art & Design) on Friday at the SCSU Tennis Courts. First serve begins at 1 p.m.
