SC State Falls to UNC-Greensboro in Women’s Basketball Season Opener

Greensboro, N.C. — Junior guard Kourtney Williams scored a game-high 22 points with six rebounds as the SC State Lady Bulldogs fell to UNC-Greensboro (UNC-G), 63-72, in its 2013-14 season opener. The opener is the first of two road games to start the season for the Lady Bulldogs. SC State will travel to Spartanburg, S.C. on Tuesday (Nov. 19) to face the Spartans of USC-Upstate.

SC State (0-1) had four players total to record in double-digits as DayShaun Richbow scored 13, Cabriel Duren scored 11 and Persephone "Ci-Ci" Goodwin contributed 10 points in the contest. Goodwin pulled in a team-high seven rebounds while Richbow and Duren pulled in six boards each in the contest.

UNC-G had three players to record double-digit points led by Lucy Mason with a game-high 17. Breonna Patterson scored 13 and Janaé Stevenson had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Spartans who improved to 1-2 on the season.

The Lady Bulldogs will host Presbyterian in its 2013-14 home opener next Thursday, Nov. 21. Tip off for Thursday's contest is set for 6 p.m. in the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
