SC State Defeats North Carolina A&T, 3-1, in Women’s Volleyball Regular Season Finale

Orangeburg, S.C.—The SC State women's volleyball team defeated North Carolina A&T, 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 21-25, 25-23), in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) matchup. With the win the Lady Bulldogs secured a berth in the 2013 MEAC championships.

SC State had two players to record double-digit kills led by Desire Waller with a match-high 26. Marissa Lawrence had 14 kills as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 6-21 overall and 5-5 in the MEAC. Freshman Victoria Ferguson picked up a match-high 21 digs while sophomore Melanie Williams put a match-high 46 set assists in the win.

"I'm so proud of the team, we did a great job of executing our game plan," said head coach Valerie Jones. "NC A&T is an extremely strong team and we did nice job of tracking their offense today." Jones continued, "We showed a lot of growth and composer as we closed out the regular season. I'm glad we were able to send the seniors, Desire, Alyse and Taylor out with a win."

NC A&T was led by Aleena McDaniel with 14 kills. Brooke Stamnes had 13 and Te'Borah Hawkins had11 kills as the Lady Aggies dropped to 7-24 overall and 6-4 in the MEAC.

SC State will travel to Baltimore, Md. next weekend, Friday-Sunday, Nov. 15-17, to participate in the 2013 MEAC Championships. The championships will be played at the Physical Education Complex on the campus of Coppin State University.
