SC State Women’s Soccer Team Shut-Out Howard in Afternoon Matinee

Orangeburg, S.C.—SC State scored two goals in the second half en route to defeating Howard, 2-0, in an afternoon matinee at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium. With the win the Lady Bulldogs improved to 6-6-1. Howard dropped to 2-6-1 on the season.

Junior Janell Cash picked up her fifth goal of the season as she scored on a cross from the left off an assist by Brittany Rodrigue at the 47:47 mark of the match. The Lady Bulldogs second goal came at the 70:26 mark when sophomore Rhea Anne Currie scored off a pass from the right side of the net by senior Kaitlynn Cortez. Sophomore goalkeeper Haley Austin was solid in the net for SC State as she recorded nine saves on all nine of Howard's shots-on-goal.

Overall the game ended pretty even with SC State outshooting Howard by two, 13-11 and Howard recording more corner kicks than the Lady Bulldogs, 8-5.

SC State will hit the road for a three-game swing beginning next Sunday, Oct. 13 when they travel to Newark, N.J. to take on NJIT. The Lady Bulldogs will then face Delaware State (Oct. 15), and Howard (Oct. 17) before returning back to Dawson Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 19 when they host NJIT.
