SC State Falls to Florida A&M in MEAC Volleyball Match

Tallahassee, Fla.—The SC State women's volleyball team fell to Florida A&M (FAMU), 3-0 (11-25, 21-25, 15-25), in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matchup. The match was the second of three road matches for the Lady Bulldogs.

After dropping set one, 25-10, SC State began set two much more aggression. The teams went point-for-point over the first six exchanges before the Lady Bulldogs used a 5-3 run to take the 8-6 lead which forced FAMU into a timeout. The Lady Rattlers used a 5-0 run out of the timeout to take the 11-9 lead. SC State regained their composure scoring the next two points to tie the set at 11-11. The teams exchanged points once again, before FAMU gained the three point advantage, 16-13. The Lady Rattlers increased its lead to 20-14 but the Lady Bulldogs kept fighting. SC State cut the deficit to three late, 24-21, before going on to drop the set, 25-21.

SC State fell behind 4-1 to start set three but quickly got its offense back on track. The Lady Bulldogs scored four straight points, including two straight aces from Desire Waller, to take the 5-4 lead in the set. FAMU rallied back to score the next five points to regain the lead at 9-5 and force the Lady Bulldogs into its first timeout of the set. SC State scored the next two points out of the timeout to cut the deficit to two, 9-7, but FAMU then used a 7-1 run to push its lead seven, 16-8. The Lady Rattlers maintained the momentum en route to winning set three 25-15 and the match 3-0.

Waller put down seven kills with three service aces to lead SC State (3-19, 2-4 MEAC). Senior Taylor Bailey contributed five kills with five total blocks and sophomore Marissa Lawrence had five kills in the match.

Florida A&M was led by Katherine Huanec with 15 kills. Ginna Lopez-Chavez and Yeisha Arcia had eight kills each for the Lady Rattlers who improved to 10-6 overall and 6-0 in the MEAC.

SC State will close out its three-match road swing, Sunday, Oct. 27, when they travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. to take on the Lady Wildcats in a MEAC conference match. The Lady Bulldogs will return to Dukes Gymnasium on Tuesday, Oct. 29 when they host Charleston Southern in a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
