SC State Women’s Volleyball Defeats Bethune-Cookman in MEAC Opener

Daytona Beach, Fla.—Junior Desire Waller recorded a double-double, 28 kills-20 digs, as the SC State women's volleyball team defeated Bethune-Cookman, 3-2, (23-25, 27-25, 25-27, 25-23, 15-11), in its 2012 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opener.

SC State (4-7, 1-0 MEAC) had three players to record double-digit kills as sophomore Maya Bell put down 12, junior Taylor Bailey contributed 10 kills and Waller. Freshman setter Melanie Williams put up a season-high 61 set assists with 15 digs while senior E. Paige Webb picked up a game-high 25 digs in the contest.

Krysta Gardner put down 21 kills and Jennifer Jimenez had 25 digs as Bethune-Cookman remained winless on the season at 0-18 overall and 1-0 in the MEAC.

The Lady Bulldogs will remain in the sunshine state as they travel to Tallahassee to take on the Lady Rattlers of Florida A&M, Sunday, Sept. 30.  First serve for Sunday's contest is set for 6 p.m.
