BOILING SPRINGS, NC—The South Carolina State men's tennis team extended its winning streak to 14-straight with a 5-2, victory over Gardner-Webb Sunday at Webb Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs improved to 16-2 overall, 4-0 in the MEAC, while GWU dropped to 6-12 overall, 0-4 on the season.
SC State jumped out to an early advantage winning the doubles point with Dmytro Kovalevych/Anton Protsenko (SCST) def. A. Knutsson-Sundblad/Roman Piftor (GWU) 8-4 and Tomas Bizon/Jangeum Lee (SCST) def. Joao Poli/Stephen Martin (GWU) 8-5.
In single action, senior Dmytro Kovalevych (SCST) def. Korhan Ates (GWU) 6-2, 6-2 at the No. #1 spot, junior Anton Protsenko (SCST) def. Roman Piftor (GWU) 6-1, 7-5 at the No.# 3 spot, junior Peteris Vinogradovs (SCST) def. Ernest Alberch (GWU) 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 at the No.# 4 spot, and sophomore Artemiy Nikitin (SCST) def. Joao Poli (GWU) 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 at the No. # 5 spot to remain undefeated in singles action this season.
SC State will return to action on Saturday, April 7, when they travel to take on Francis Marion University in non-conference action, beginning at 1 p.m.
