Bulldogs Close Out Regular Season With 82-71 Loss To DSU

SC State finish regular season winless in conference at 0-16.

Box Score DOVER, DE—The South Carolina State Bulldogs closed out their regular season play with an, 82-71, loss to Hornets of Delaware State, Thursday at Memorial Hall.
       SC State falls to 5-25 overall, 0-16 in the MEAC, while Delaware State improves to 15-13 overall, 12-4 in the league.
       Senior's forward Omar Sanders and guard Brandon Riley finished with 20 each on the night. Sanders also recorded his eleventh double-double of the season grabbing 10 rebounds. The Hornets was led by Marques Oliver with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while teammate Amere May finished with 15.
        Delaware State secure a third seed with the victory, while SC State finished last in the conference with a 13th seed for the upcoming MEAC Championships Tournament held  in Winston-Salem, NC , March 5-10.
        A driving layup by Casey Walker at the 6:49 mark gave DSU their biggest lead of the first half 12, 31-19. Junior guard Aaron Martin nailed a 3-pointer to cut the lead to five, 31-26, with 4:17 left in the half.
       The Hornets rallied ahead to extend the lead to 11, 37-26, on a layup by Walker. Freshman point guard Tahj Tate tossed in a pair of free-throws as time to give Delaware State a, 41-30, lead over SC State at halftime.
        DSU keep the momentum going in the second half holding their 11-point lead, 69-58, off a 3-pointer by Amere May with 4:44 left in regulation. A 3-pointer by junior point Khalif Toombs cut the lead to nine, 78-69, with a 1:13 left.
         Delaware State held on to defeat South Carolina State 81-72 to close out regular season play for both teams. The Hornets bench outscored the Bulldogs 20-15.
        Junior guards Aaron Martin finished with 11 points and five rebounds, while Khalif Toombs added 10 in the loss. Walker led all scorers for the Hornets with a team-high 17 points, while Tate chipped in 11 in the victory.
         Both teams will return to action on next week in the first round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's and Women's Basketball Championships, beginning Monday March 5-10 at Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
