SC State Men’s Tennis Team Defeat Elon 4-3

The Bulldogs defeated the Phoenix for the first time in school history

ELON, N.C. –The South Carolina State men's tennis team posted an impressive 4-3, over Elon University on Saturday at Powell Tennis Center.

Despite, windy and cold conditions the Bulldogs manage to defeat a tough Phoniex team, the first time in school history.

“It was a great win for us and our program against a very talented and tough Elon team,” said SC State head coach Hardeep Judge. “ To knock a team we never beaten in the past, says a lot about our team even with our injuries.”

South Carolina State earned the doubles point after tallying victories at number two and three. On the third court, Tomas Bizon and Young Lee-Kwang defeated Geaslen and Kaufman, 8-3, before Anton Protsenko and Dmytro Kovalevych handed Fortmann and Madrid an 8-5 setback.

At number one doubles, Eric Turner and Siverman earned a win for the Phoenix with an 8-7 (7-4) victory over Peteris Vinogradovs and Artemiy Nikitin.

In singles play, junior Anton Protsenko earned a point , with a 6-1,6-2 victory over Eric Turner.

Elon knotted the match at 2-all after Fortmann, claimed a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Kovalevych at number two.

South Carolina State responded, as Vinogradovs defeated Kaufman 6-3, 6-4 before Nikitin downed Carlos Arboleda 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the match for the Bulldogs.

SC State will return to action on Friday, March 2 ,when they host Newberry College in a 12 noon showdown at SCSU Courts.
