#12 Missouri Powers Over SC State, 102-51

Box Score COLUMBIA, MO—South Carolina State had its hand full with #12 Missouri as the Bulldogs suffered a 102-51 loss Monday at Mizzoui Arena.
        South Carolina dropped its third-straight contest to fall to 4-7 overall, 0-1 in the MEAC, while Missouri improves to 9-1 overall.
       The Bulldogs were led by junior center Matthew Hezekiah (6-11, 235) with 14 points and 12 rebounds, his fourth double-double of the season. Meanwhile, teammate freshman guard Shaquiell Mitchell (6-4, 185) chipped in 10 points and four rebounds in the loss.
         The Tiger controlled the first-half with a nine point lead, 20-11 off a jumper by Laurence Bowers (6-8, 227) at the 10:38 mark. Senior guard Keion Bell (6-4, 200) converted on back-to-back layups to push the lead to 17, 28-11 with 6:30 left in the first-half.
         Missouri sparked a 21-7 run to close out the half with a 49-18 lead.
         Sophomore guard Jabari Brown (6-5, 205) nailed a 3-pointer and tossed in a jumper to extend Missouri's lead to a commanding 42-points, 64-22 at the 15:04 mark. Freshman guard Negus Webster-Chan layup pushed the Tigers to its biggest lead of the night 51-points, 94-53 with 5:02 left in regulation.
         “They (Missouri) are a power and athletic team who will only get better as the season goes on,” said SC State head coach Tim Carter.
          Missouri had five players in double-figures with Earnest Ross leading with way with 16 points, while transfer Jabari Brown and junior forward Tony Criswell each finished with 12 points.  Bowers and Jankovic chipped in 11 each, while senior forward Alex Oriakhi (6-9, 225) finished with a team-high 11 rebounds.
          South Carolina State will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Iowa City, IA to take on the Hawkeyes of Iowa in a non-conference matchup. Tip-off is 8 p.m.
