SC State Women’s Volleyball Falls to College of Charleston in Non-Conference Match

Charleston, S.C.-SC State fell to College of Charleston, 0-3, (9-25, 25-27, 13-25), in a non-conference women's volleyball match. With the loss the Lady Bulldogs fall to 6-11 overall. 

College of Charleston (16-6) dominated Set One, using a .600 hitting percentage and holding SC State to a .000 percentage enroute to the 25-9 Set.

SC State bounced back nicely in Set Two, improving their hitting percentage to .237 while holding the Cougars to a .244 percentage.  The teams exchanged over the first 16 points before the College of Charleston managed to take a four point advantage, 8-12.  The Lady Bulldogs used a 4-1 run to pull within at 12-13.  SC State maintained the momentum, using a 5-2 run to take its first lead of the set at 17-16.  The teams once again exchanged points with the College of Charleston prevailing in extra points, 27-25.

The teams once again exchanged points to begin Set Three before the College of Charleston took control.  The Cougars went on a 4-1 run to take the 12-9 lead and never relinquished it.  The Lady Bulldogs could not get it offense back in stride, scoring just four additional points for the remainder of the game, falling in Set Three 13-25, and the match 0-3.

Junior Desire Waller, who is just three kills away from eclipsing the 1000th career kill mark, led the way with 12 kills.  Freshman Melanie Williams had 19 set assists while the lone senior E. Paige Webb picked up 10 digs in the loss.

College of Charleston was led by Lizzie Theesfeld and Kari Fidelholtz who recorded 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

The Lady Bulldog will have a week off from competition before returning to Charleston to face Charleston Southern University, next Tuesday, Oct. 23.  The Lady Bulldogs will then return home to host Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman next Friday and Sunday, Oct. 26 and Oct. 28, respectively.  Friday's contest is set for a 6 p.m. first serve while Sunday's first serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
