Orangeburg, S.C. – The SC State University women's volleyball team will hit the road this weekend, Friday-Saturday, Sept. 9-10, for the first-of-three straight road tournaments. The lady Bulldogs will to Jacksonville, Fla. to participate in the Jacksonville Tournament.
SC State will open the tournament on Friday at 7 p.m. when they take on the Ospreys of the University of North Florida (UNF). The Lady Bulldogs will take on Presbyterian on Saturday at 1 p.m. before closing the tournament against host Jacksonville University at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
The Lady Bulldogs enters the tournament with a 4-3 record after capturing the 2011 SC State Spikefest Title last weekend (Sept. 2-3). Sophomore Desiree Waller finished the tournament with 43 kills, 14 total blocks, 11 aces and 26 digs. On the season Waller and redshirt junior
Shabree Roberson is currently leading the team in hitting averaging 2.82 and 2.55 kills per set. As a team, SC State is averaging 10.27 kills per set and 2.27 blocks per set.
SC State will remain on the road for the next two weekends as they participate in the Springhill Suites Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern (Sept. 15-17) and the Alabama State Tournament (Sept. 23-24). The Lady Bulldogs will return home on Friday, Sept. 30 when they host Bethune-Cookman in its 2011 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opener.
