SC State Women’s Volleyball Goes 1-1 on Day Two of the Alabama State Tournament

Montgomery, Ala.—The SC State women's volleyball went 1-1 on Day Two of the Alabama State Tournament. The tournament was the third-straight road tournament for the Lady Bulldogs. Redshirt junior Shabree Roberson and sophomore Desire Waller were named to the All-Tournament Team.

In its first match of the day, SC State (7-10) relinquished a two set to none lead as they fell to Jackson State 2-3, (25-17, 25-22, 17-25, 20-25, 11-25). Despite the loss, the Lady Bulldogs had another good all-around showing as they recorded 56 kills (.273) with six team blocks and 51 defensive digs. SC State had three players to record double-digit kills led by Desire Waller with 19. E. Paige Webb contributed 13 and Shabree Roberson put down 11 kills in the match. Webb recorded her first double-double of the season as she picked up a game-high 20 digs in the contest. Bria Brimmer put up 50 set assists in the loss.

In its final match of the day, SC State once again jumped ahead two sets to none; however, they never let up, as they went capture the match, 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-23). The Lady Bulldogs continued to maintain its all-around good play as they hit for .313 (53 kills) and put down five team blocks, with a season-high 62 digs. For the second straight game SC State had three players to record double-digit kills. Waller once again led the team in kills with 18. Shabree Roberson put down 13 and E. Paige Webb added 10 kills in the contest. Brendell Studnicka and Waller each recorded double-digit digs with 17 and 12, respectively. Bria Brimmer recorded her third straight 40-plus set assist game with 48.

SC State will return home next weekend, Friday and Sunday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 2 when they MEAC play. The Lady Bulldogs will host Bethune-Cookman on Friday at 6 p.m. and Florida A&M on Sunday at 3 p.m. Both contests will be played at Dukes Gymnasium on the campus of SC State and are free and open to the public.
