SC State Women’s Volleyball Closes Out Tournament Play at Alabama State

Roberson currently leads the MEAC and team in blocks
Montgomery, Ala.—The SC State women's volleyball will close out its 2011 non-conference tournament play this weekend, Friday-Saturday, Sept. 23-24, at the Alabama State Tournament. This weekend's tournament is the third straight road tournament for SC State.

SC State will open tournament play on Friday at 4:30 p.m. versus Mississippi Valley State. The Lady Bulldogs will face Jackson State on Saturday at 1 p.m. before closing out the tournament versus host Alabama State at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs will enter this weekend's tournament with a 5-9 overall record. Sophomore Desire Waller and redshirt junior Shabree Roberson continues to lead the team in kills averaging 3.27 and 2.46 per set, respectively. Roberson currently leads the team and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in blocks averaging 1.00 blocks per game (48 total). As a team SC State is averaging 10.27 kills and 1.83 blocks per set.

SC State will return home next weekend, Friday and Sunday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 2 when they MEAC play. The Lady Bulldogs will host Bethune-Cookman on Friday at 6 p.m. and Florida A&M on Sunday at 3 p.m. Both contests will be played at Dukes Gymnasium on the campus of SC State and are free and open to the public.
