SC State Falls to UNC Asheville in Women’s Soccer

Asheville, N.C. (9-18-11)—The SC State women's soccer team could not get any offense going as they fell to UNC-Asheville (UNC-A), 1-5, in a non-conference matchup on Sunday (Sept. 18). With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fall to 1-4-2 on the season.

Amanda Knapp led the way for UNC-A with two goals and two assists for six points. Stephanie Searle scored SC State's lone goal game in the 33rd minute of the game. Leilani Halkiotis scored two and Kaitlyn Eckert scored one goal for UNC-A, who improved to 1-7-0 on the season.

"We as coaches did not do a good job preparing for this game and I take full responsibility for the result,” said head coach Glad Bugariu. “We are at a point in the season where we have to a number of things from everyone involved in order to win games or it will be a long hard road ahead."

The Lady Bulldogs will look to change things up and regroup this Wednesday, Sept. 21 when they travel to Rock Hill, S.C. to take on the Eagles of Winthrop. SC State will then travel to Longwood on Sunday (Sept. 25) before returning home next Saturday (Oct. 1) when they host university of North Dakota in its 2011 Great West Conference (GWC) opener.
