Statesboro, Ga.—The SC State women's volleyball team fell to Georgia State,
3-0, (22-25, 16-25, 15-25), in its opening match of the Bash in the Boro presented by Springhill Suites and hosted by Georgia Southern.
SC State (4-7) struggled to find it's rhythm in the first two sets of the match, hitting a dismal .015 with just one team block. The Lady Bulldogs began Set Three much more poised jumping out to a 4-0 lead. Georgia State (5-8) regrouped quickly going on a 4-0 run to tie the game at 4-4. The teams exchanged points over the next three rotations with neither team taking more than a two-point advantage until late in the set. Georgia Southern went on a 4-1 run to take a five point advantage at 16-11 and never looked back. The Panthers closed the set on a 9-4 run to take Set Three, 25-15, and the match 3-0.
Sophomore
Desire Waller recorded 10 kills with nine digs and one service ace to lead SC State. Senior setter
Bria Brimmer recorded her first season double-double of the season with 22 set assists and 11 digs in the loss.
Georgia State was led by Vineece Verdun with 12 kills. Kaylee Mcgrew put up 29 set assists with 10 digs and Emily Averbeck picked up 13 digs in the victory.
SC State will take on face Ohio on Friday (Sept. 16) at 10 a.m. before taking on Presbyterian at 5 p.m. on Friday. The Lady Bulldogs will close out the tournament against host Georgia Southern on 1 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 17).
