Box Score MONTGOMERY, AL – The SC State soccer team recorded its first win of the 2011 campaign Sunday with a 3-1 victory over host Alabama State. Coach Glad Bugariu's team leveled its record at 1-1-1 on the season. The Lady Bulldogs lost at Clemson (1-7) on August 19 and played Mississippi Valley State to a 0-0 deadlock on Friday at Itta Bena, MS.
SC State got goals from
Kaitlynn Cortez, a junior of San Jose, CA, senior
Olivia Moore of Powhatan, VA, and junior Darci Smith of Bakersfield, CA.
Veronica Aguilar assisted on goals one and two and Cortez picked up an assist on the last goal.
Coach Bugariu had hoped for a sweep against the two Southwestern Athletic Conference teams, but was happy his squad did not suffer a loss.
“We did not drive all the way down here (Mississippi and Alabama) to lose games,” Bugariu said. “We did what we needed to do to come out undefeated through the weekend. We now have to focus on our opening home game Friday and are happy to be coming home.”
The Lady Bulldogs open their home schedule Friday when they host Georgia Southern in a 7 p.m. match at Willie Jeffries Field at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.
