SC State Goes 0-2 on Day Two of the Big Orange Bash

Clemson, S.C.—The SC State women's volleyball team went 0-2 on day two of the Big Orange Bash. The tournament, which concluded today, was hosted by Clemson University. Sophomore Desiree Waller was named to the All-Tournament Team.

In its first game of the day, SC State (0-3) fell to Loyola University of Maryland, 0-3, (24-26, 22-25, 21-25). Shabree Roberson had an outstanding match as she put down nine kills with eight total blocks (2 solo-6 block assists), three digs and one service ace. Desiree Waller contributed seven kills with 13 digs and Bria Brimmer put up 30 set assists in the match. Paige Webb and Brendell Studnicka each picked up 14 digs in the loss.

Loyola (Md.) had two players to record double-digit kills as Nicole Sarby and Tina Catanach put down 11 a piece. Lauren Andersen recorded a double-double with 27 set assists and 10 digs.

In its final match of the tournament SC State fell to Clemson, 0-3, (10-25, 13-25, 19-25). After scoring just 23 combined points in Sets 1 and 2, SC State did would not be discouraged. After a 10 minute intermission, the Lady Bulldogs displayed lots of hustle in set three exchanging points with Clemson using a series of mini runs throughout the set. The two teams exchanged the lead three times before Clemson managed to pull away and take Set Three 25-19. Desiree Waller had another good all around match as she put down seven kills with one service ace and two block assists. Paige Webb and Shabree Roberson each recorded four kills while Bria Brimmer put up 17 assists in the loss.

Clemson was led by Adeley Sandra with 11 kills. Hannah Brenner and Kamryn Sherman recorded double-digit assists with 18 and 14 respectively. Cansu Ozdemir had seven digs as the Lady Tigers improved to 3-0 on the season.

SC State will return back to action next Friday-Saturday, Sept. 2-3, when they host the SC State Spikefest. The Lady Bulldogs will then hit the road for three straight tournaments before returning home on Friday, Sept. 30 when they begin the defense of their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Title against Bethune-Cookman.
