Clemson, S.C.—The SC State University women's volleyball team fell to Tennessee State, 3-0, (17-25, 16-25, 19-25) in its 2011 season-opener. The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Tigers met in the opening game of the Big Orange Bash hosted by Clemson University. The tournament, which concludes tomorrow, is being contested at Jervey Gymnasium on the campus of Clemson University.
Shabree Roberson led SC State (0-1) offensively with seven kills.
Desire Waller contributed five kills and seven digs while
Bria Brimmer put up 18 set assists in the match. Defensively Roberson had four total blocks (1 block solo-3 block assists) and
Melissa Robinson picked up eight digs in the loss.
Tennessee State was led by Shaquita Williams and Terakka Walker with 13 and 11 kills respectively. Erika Moss put up 33 set assists and Britani Hathorn had 21 digs in as the Lady Tigers improved to 1-0 on the season.
SC State concludes the tournament beginning at 10 a.m. when they face Loyola University of Maryland. The Lady Bulldogs close out the tournament at 6 p.m. versus host Clemson.
