Orangeburg, S.C.—The SC State women's volleyball team will hold its annual Garnet and Blue Scrimmage, this Friday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. Prior to the contest the 1990 and 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) women's volleyball championship teams will be honored with the unveiling of their championship banners.
The 1990 volleyball team, which captured the first MEAC volleyball championships for SC State, was enshrined in the SC State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010.
The 2010 women's volleyball team finished with a 17-23 overall record and 6-2 in the MEAC Southern Division en route to its title. The Lady Bulldogs saw three of their players named to the First Team All-MEAC (
Jarne Gleaton-Player of the Year,
Bria Brimmer and
Shabree Roberson). Gleaton, who completed her eligibility last season and Roberson were also named to the MEAC All-Tournament Team.
The 2011 team will begin its title defense next weekend, Friday-Saturday, Aug. 26-27, when they travel to Clemson, S.C. to participate in the Big Orange Classic hosted by Clemson University. SC will open its 2011 home-season the following weekend, Friday-Saturday, Sept. 2-3 when they host the 2011 SC State Spikefest.
