Savannah, Ga.—The SC State women's volleyball team closed out its final road-swing with a
3-0, (25-19, 25-14, 25-21), over Savannah State. The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matchup was played at the Willcox Wiley Gymnasium.
SC State (16-15, 7-1 MEAC) took control of the game early, as they started with an 8-4 lead in Set One. Savannah State put together a 5-1 run to tie the game at 9-9 midway through the set. The teams began battled point-for-point, before SC State took the five point lead, 18-13 and never looked back as they went on to win Set One 25-19.
The Lady Bulldogs sustained its momentum, starting Set Two with a 7-2 lead. The Lady Bulldogs increased its lead to 17-10 en route to the 25-14 Set Two victory.
SC State controlled the entire match, as they began the third set with a 6-1 run. The Lady Bulldogs dominance continued throughout the set as they increased their lead to 12-5 midway through the set. Savannah State had one last run left as they used a 12-7 run to pull within two, 17-19, and force a SC State timeout. Out of the timeout the Lady Bulldogs regained the momentum using a 6-4 run to close the set, 25-21 and capturing the match 3-0.
Desire Waller led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with 14 kills. Waller also contributed six digs.
Shabree Roberson had an effective all-around game as she put down eight kills with seven total blocks (4 solo-3 assists).
Tiffany Ancrum and
Shaina Ituah had career-high kills with eight and seven, respectively while
E. Paige Webb picked up a game-high 14 digs in the victory.
Savannah State (0-24, 0-8 MEAC) was led by Biana Helton with seven kills while Bridgette Stephens had 11 digs in the loss.
SC State will close out the regular season next weekend when they host North Carolina Central (Friday, Nov. 11) and North Carolina A&T (Sunday, Nov. 13). Sunday's match will be Senior Day for the Lady Bulldogs.
