SC State Falls to Citadel in Non-Conference Volleyball Matchup

Sr., Setter Bria Brimmer put up 32 set assists in the loss

Charleston, S.C.—The SC State women's volleyball team fell to the The Citadel, 3-0, (13-25, 22-25, 22-25) in a non-conference volleyball match in Charleston, S.C.

SC State (9-11) began the game very sluggish as Citadel opened the game with a 9-3 run and forcing the Lady Bulldogs into its first timeout of the set. The Bulldogs used a 6-1 run to increase its lead to 11 (15-4). SC State managed to go on a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to 17-7 but it was not enough as The Citadel wins Set One 25-13.

The Lady Bulldogs was more aggressive to begin Set Two, jumping ahead 4-1. The Citadel (7-9) quickly put their offense into motion going on a 5-0 run to jump ahead 6-4. The Lady Bulldogs regained the momentum taking a 15-13 lead midway through the set. The teams exchanged points for the remainder before the Citadel managed to put together a 4-0 run to close the set 25-22.

After the 10 minute intermission, SC State once again came out Sluggish as they fell behind in Set Three 12-5 midway through the set. The Lady Bulldogs used a 10-5 run to cut the deficit to two, 17-15 and force a Citadel timeout. SC State maintained its intensity throughout the set but fell just short, dropping Set Three 25-22, and the match 3-0.

Desire Waller led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with 18 kills. Paige Webb added eight kills while Brendell Studnicka had 10 digs and Bria Brimmer put up 32 set assists in the loss.

The Citadel was led by Kathryn Johnston nine kills. Alexa Dahlstrom had 25 set assists in the victory.
