Orangeburg, S.C.—The SC State women's soccer team defeated Delaware State, 2-1, in a Great West Conference (GWC) match up.  The victory is the first home and second straight conference win of the 2011 campaign for the Lady Bulldogs.

SC State (3-6-3, 2-0-1 GWC), got on the scoreboard first off a cross shot by Cassie Rodriguez which came off an assist by Stephanie Searle in the 18th minute.  The remainder of the half became a defensive game as neither team could score in the final 27 minutes.  SC State enjoyed a 1-0 lead at intermission.

Both teams continued to play solid defense over the first 15 minutes of the second half, before SC State picked up a yellow card which gave Delaware State (1-13-2, 0-3-1 GWC) a chance at a penalty kick.  Jeanette Salgado scored on the penalty kick in the 60th minute to tie the game at 1-1.  Through the torrential downpour, Kaitlynn Cortez scored what proved to be the game-winning goal off an Olivia Moore assist in the 78th minute to go ahead and capture the game at 2-1.

The Lady Bulldogs will host NJIT in a GWC match-up this Saturday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m.  Due to scheduling conflict, the matchup, which is a home game for SC State, will be played on the campus of USC-Aiken in Aiken, S.C.
