SC State Suffers Heartbreaking 62-60 Defeat To Delaware State

Bell scores career-high 18 points in loss to Delaware State
ORANGEBURG, SC—JUCO transfer Presano Bell poured in a career-high 18 points and grabbed six rebounds, while junior guard Brandon Riley chipped in 11 but it wasn't enough as South Carolina State dropped in tough 62-60 decision to Delaware State Monday in MEAC play.
      South Carolina State falls to 5-10 overall, 1-1 in the MEAC, while Delaware State improves to 6-8 overall, 2-0 in the league.
       The Bulldogs jumped out to a five point advantage, 16-11 off a layup by Presano Bell at the 9:51 mark in the first-half. Terron Stowe pulled the Hornets within one, 16-15 with 6:26 left in the half. A 3-pointer by Westley Telafare followed by a layup by Bell put the Bulldogs 27-24 at halftime.
      SC State held its biggest lead of the game eight, 58-50 with 4:23 left in the contest. Delaware State rallied back to spark a 10-0 run to take the lead off a 3-pointer by Desi Washington with 1:08 left. SC State's Presano Bell would not be denied as he battle in the post to score a game tying layup 60-60 with 0:09 seconds left in the contest.
       Jay Threat hit a jumper as time expired to lift Delaware State to a 62-60 victory over South Carolina State.
        Delaware State was led in scoring by Marques Oliver with 17 points, Desi Washington chipped in 14 and Jay Threatt added 11 in the victory.
       South Carolina State will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Baltimore, MD to take on the Bears of Morgan State. The men's game will be televised live on ESPN2 immediatelly following the women's 2:30 p.m. tip-off.
