SC State Women’s Volleyball Falls to Georgia Southern, 3-0

Statesboro, Ga. (9-28-10) — The SC State women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference decision to Georgia Southern, 3-0, (15-25, 18-25, 19-25). The match was contested at the Hanner Fieldhouse on the campus of Georgia Southern University.

Sets One and Two of the match belonged solely to Georgia Southern as they held SC State to 15 and 18 points and hitting percentages of .100 and .077 respectively.

After a 10 minute intermission between Sets Two and Three, SC State came out aggressive. After Georgia Southern put up the first point of the set, SC State went on a 9-2 run to jump ahead of the Eagles, 9-3. During the run, sophomore Paige Webb served eight straight points for the Lady Bulldogs including two services aces.

Georgia Southern fought back over the next few points with a 3-0 run to pull within three (9-6). SC State maintained a two-point lead throughout most of Set Three before the Eagles went on a 7-0 at 18-16 to jump ahead of the Lady Bulldogs 23-18. Georgia Southern scored the last two-of-three points to capture Set Three 25-19 and the match 3-0.

Senior Jarne Gleaton recorded eight kills and nine digs to lead the Lady Bulldogs.  Sophomore Paige Webb had six kills with nine digs and junior setter Bria Brimmer put up 23 assists in the loss.

Georgia Southern was led by Parker Small with eight kills.  Kate Van Dyke put up a game-high 30 assists in the victory.

The Lady Bulldogs will return to action next Tuesday, October 5 when they host Alabama State University.
