SC State Women’s Soccer Defeats UNC-Asheville 3-1

Snaps Two-Game Losing Streak

Orangeburg, SC—The SC State women's soccer team defeated UNC-Asheville, 3-1, this afternoon at the Oliver C. Dawson Stadium. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Lady Bulldogs. The two teams were supposed to meet in Asheville, NC on yesterday, but due to unplayable conditions, the match was moved to Orangeburg.
            SC State (5-4-1) got on the scoreboard first as Tori Papp scored off an assist by Brooke Ehinger in the 23rd minute of the game. UNC-Asheville got its only goal of the game from Hannah Jeske seven minutes later (30:21). The Lady Bulldogs got a late half goal (43:18) from Katilynn Cortez to enjoy a 2-1 lead heading into the half.
            After intermission, it took SC State less than two minutes to score their third goal of the game as Ehinger hit a straight-on shot. The teams would play a defensive game for the remaining of the second half went scoreless in the last 43 minute of the contest hence giving the Lady Bulldogs the 3-1 victory.
            SC State will have just one day to recuperate before hosting Winthrop University on Wednesday. First kick is set for 7 p.m. in the Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.
 
Game Note: There was a 30 minute thunderstorm delay in the first half of the match.
