Fuquay-Varina, NC - For the second-straight year, Classics Sports Radio Network will broadcast the Russell Athletic HBCU Bowl on Saturday, December 18 live from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 p.m. ET and the pregame show will begin at 1:30 p.m. The game can be heard on SC State campus station, WSSB (90.3 FM).
Seven seniors from the 2010 SC State football squad will be participating in the contest and will be playing for the East squad. Bulldogs participating in the contest are quarterback Malcolm Long, offensive linemen Johnny Culbreath and Josh Harrison, linebackers David Erby, Marshall McFadden and Julius Wilkerson, and defensive back Semaj Moody.
The HBCU Bowl teams are made up of some of the nation's best senior football players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities, in an East vs. West style format. The East team is made up of players from the MEAC and CIAA and coached by Florida A&M head coach Joe Taylor, while the West team is made up of players from the SWAC and the SIAC and coached by Tuskegee head coach Willie Slater. The players will participate in a "combine" atmosphere during the week as NFL personnel administer tests.
Classics Sports Radio Network was established in 2008 and broadcasts some of America's biggest Black College Football games and sporting events on radio stations around the country. Games broadcast for the last three seasons include MEAC/SWAC Challenge, Southern Heritage Classic in Memphis, State Fair Classic in Dallas, CIAA Championship Game, and the SWAC Championship Game. Past games have included first round of the NCAA FCS Playoffs, Atlanta Football Classic, and the John Merritt Classic to name a few.
In addition to the broadcast of the game, the pregame show will consist of interviews with each head coach. In addition there will be player interviews during the course of the game. The broadcast can be heard on the radio stations listed below and online at www.classicsportsradio.com. Nine stations are currently slated to pick up the game with more scheduled to be added.
Donal Ware will handle play-by-play duties, while Eric Curry will handle color analyst duties and the sideline reporter will be named later.
