Was granted another year of eligibility by the NCAA after missing a second season as a medical redshirt and is expected to provide great leadership on and off the field...Will have an opportunity to step back into former starting role at mike linebacker and be among the top defensive players in the MEAC...An outstanding season would make him a candidate for the league’s Defensive Player of the Year honor...A great talent who can play multiple linebacker positions to take advantage of his pass rush, run-stopping and coverage abilities...A strong candidate for several postseason honors, including All-America..Has started all 37 games he has played in as a Bulldog…Is among several Lamar High graduates to play for SC State. 2009: Missed the entire season as a medical redshirt after sustaining a preseason injury. 2008: Was the starter at middle linebacker in all 13 of the team’s games…Completed the campaign tied for number one on the team in total tackles with 88, with a team-leading 51 unassisted …Also led the Bulldogs in tackles for loss with 11 and tied for second on the squad in sacks with five….Earned MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance (15 tackles) in a pivotal 24-23 Bulldog win over Norfolk State…Was a second-team All-MEAC selection. 2007: Started at the “Dog” safety position against Air Force and Bethune-Cookman before an elbow injury ended his season as he missed the final nine contests…Was a preseason All-MEAC selection and off to a great start before being sidelined…Had 12 tackles, six of them solos in his two appearances. 2006: Started all 11 contests, rotating from linebacker to safety early in the campaign… Finally settled in at “Dog” safety where he was an impact player for SC State…Finished number four on the team in tackles with 43 total, including 22 unassisted…Added two tackles for loss, a sack, two interceptions and two pass breakups each and one forced fumble. High School: Was anchor of a defense that catapulted Lamar High to three consecutive Class A state championships...Reaped All-State and All-Conference honors...Was named MVP of the SCADA North/South Game...Also played on three state track and field championship teams and lettered in basketball...Personal: A physical activity management major...Born August 4, 1986...son of Deloris and Marshall Solomon and Kathy and Joe Gainey.
