Defense Rocks Morgan St. In 32-10 Victory On ESPNU

Bulldogs defense forced eight sacks and allowed 17 yards rushing on the night.

BALTIMORE, MD— The two-time defending MEAC champion South Carolina State Bulldogs racked up 247 total yards in the first-half and cruised to a 32-10 victory over Morgan State Thursday night at Hughes Stadium on ESPNU.
“We didn't' play great but we did play well at times,” stated SC State head coach Buddy Pough. “But, we are happy to get a win, especially, in the second half when I thought we should have scored more.”
SC State jumped out to 17-7 lead in the second quarter off a 20-yard field goal by junior kicker Blake Erickson to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead . Quarterback Malcolm Long connected with Tyler McDonald for a 47-yard touchdown score to make the score 10-0 with 0:09 seconds left in the first quarter.
Morgan State battle back when David Brown punched in a seven yard run to pull the Bear's within a field goal at the 11:44 mark in the second quarter. Long's 37-yard toss to Thomas Williams with 10:27 left in the half gave the Bulldogs a 17-7 advantage. Sophomore running back Asheton Jordon returning from a ankle injury suffered early this season scored on a 13-yard scamper to give SC State a 24-7 lead to close out the first-half.
Junior All-MEAC kicker Blake Erickson nailed two field goals 32 and 36 yards to give SC State a 32-10 victory over the Bears of Morgan State. The Bulldogs improve to 8-2 overall, 6-1 in the MEAC, while the Bears fall to 4-6 overall, 3-4 in the league.
Senior quarterback Malcolm Long led the air attack with 17 of 31 for 209 yards and two touchdowns, while Asheton Jordan led the Bulldogs in rushing with 88 yards on 13 carries. Freshman wide receiver Tyler McDonald had a career receiving night seven catches for 100 yards and one touchdown.
The defense was spearheaded by senior linebacker David Erby with career-high 15 tackles and 2.5 sacks, while Marshall McFadden added nine and a sack on the night.
SC State finished with 336 total yards on offense, while Morgan State was held to 171 and 13 rushing yards. The Bulldogs defense managed eight sacks on the night.
South Carolina State will close out the regular season next week when they travel to Greensboro, NC to face the Aggies of N.C. A&T in a 1:30 p.m. showdown.
