SC State Defeats Alabama State 3-0

Snaps Five-Match Losing Streak

Sr., Jarne Gleaton recorded 10 kills in the victory over Alabama State
Orangeburg, SC—The SC State women's volleyball team snapped a five-match losing streak as they defeated Alabama State, 3-0, (25-13, 25-21, 26-24), in a non-conference matchup. 
 
SC State (5-16) cruised past Alabama State in Sets One and Two hitting .227 and .300 while holding the Hornets to 13 and 21 points respectively. 
 
The Hornets (6-12) put up a fight in Set Three as they jumped out to an 11-7 lead and eventually taking a five-point lead the set at 17-12 which forced a SC State timeout. After the timeout, SC State went on a 5-1 run to pull within one of Alabama State (17-18). The Lady Bulldogs kept the pressure on and eventually tied the game at 21-21. The teams exchanged side-outs over the next three points before SC State closed the game on a 3-1 run to take the Third Set 26-24 and the match 3-0.
 
Shabree Roberson and Jarne Gleaton led the team offensively with 12 and 10 kills respectively. Paige Webb picked up seven digs and Bria Brimmer put 30 set assists in the victory.
 
Alabama State was led offensively by Asia Manning with seven kills while Brena Wheeler, Ana Pego and Roselande Corneille each picked up seven digs in the loss.
 
SC State will return to action this weekend when they travel to the Sunshine State to open its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Lady Bulldogs will face nine-time defending champions Florida A&M on Friday, Oct. 8 in Tallahassee and Bethune-Cookman on Sunday, Oct. 10 in Daytona Beach.   The Lady Bulldogs will return home on Friday, Oct. 22 when they host Florida A&M.
