Savannah, GA—The South Carolina State University women's volleyball hit a combined .337 as they defeated Savannah State, 3-0, (25-16, 25-14, 25-14) in a non-conference matchup at the Willcox-Wiley Gymnasium on the campus of Savannah State.
Sophomore Bria Brimmer (Austin, TX/Connally HS) put up 35 assists to help the Lady Bulldogs improve to 6-9 on the season. Sophomore Peri Ligons (Austin, TX/Connally HS) led all attackers with 11 kills in the victory. Freshman Jade Sanford (Dallas, TX/Skyline HS) and Senior Brittany Davis (Myrtle Beach, SC/Socastee HS) contributed nine and seven kills respectively. Sophomore Lauren Harris (Austin, TX/Connally HS) led the team defensively with eight digs.
Shatice White led Savannah State (5-11) in kills with four while Danielle Richardson had seven digs defensively in the loss.
SC State will travel to Conway, SC next Tuesday, Sept. 29 to take on the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina University. The Lady Bulldogs will then return home next weekend when they host the Bulldog Classic, Oct. 2-3, 2009. The classic will begin at 7 pm on Friday and conclude at 6 pm on Saturday. All contests will be held in the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
