MONTGOMERY, AL – The South Carolina State soccer team scored a record 17 goals in posting a 17-1 win over Alabama State Friday. Seven Lady Bulldog players had at least one goal in the victory, which lifted Coach Glad Bugariu's team to .500, 4-4 on the season, and continued the team's best-ever start.
Junior Sasha Bender and newcomers Dani Benton, Delaney Marier, and Cassandra Rodriguez all had three goals for SC State. Alejandra Chirino, also a newcomer and the heroine of the Lady Bulldogs' 3-2 double overtime win over Charleston Southern on Tuesday, and senior Janine Francois each had two goals, while Stephanie Searle contributed one. Chirino also had a team-leading five assists.
The Lady Bulldogs, who reached the .500 mark for the second time this season, return to Orangeburg to host Wofford Monday in a 7 p.m. match at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.
“It is good to be .500,” said SC State's Bugariu, “But now we must prepare for a very tough match against an extremely talented Wofford team.”
