Alejandra Chirino (5-2, Middle, Los Angeles, CA) scored the game-winning goal in the 101st minute to help SC State defeat Charleston Southern, 3-2. With the win, the Lady Bulldogs (3-4-0) are off to their best start in school history. This victory also marks the first time in six tries that SC State has defeated Charleston Southern.

Sasha Bender scored SC State's first goal just 1:40 into the game. Bender's goal was followed up 13 minutes later with a goal up the middle by
Delaney Marier off an assist by Chirino. Marier's goal gave the Lady Bulldogs a 2-0 advantage which they enjoyed going into the half.
Charleston Southern held SC State scoreless in the second period while adding two goals of its own. The Lady Buccaneers first goal was scored by Caitlin Wesnesky off an assist by Marky Boyce. Michelle Dennis scored a goal off a by Kelsey Riggs and Caitlin Wesnesky to pull even at 2-2 with just under 20 minutes remaining in the second half.
At the end of 90 minutes, the teams remained deadlocked at 2-2 which forced an overtime period. The teams exchanged shots during the first 10 minute overtime but could not get the ball in the net, hence forcing a second overtime period.
Chirino scored the game-winning goal of an assist by
Brooke Ehinger with just 30 seconds into the second overtime giving the Lady Bulldogs the 3-2 victory.
