SC State's Johnson Earns Second MEAC Weekly Honor

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. South Carolina State center Jason Johnson has earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference weekly basketball honors for a second consecutive week. The Bronx, NY senior was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week for his play in Bulldog wins over Florida A&M (67-52) and Coppin State (69-61).

          In the Coppin victory, the 6-7, 220 pound Johnson grabbed 14 rebounds, had three blocks and one steal. For the two contests, he averaged 11 boards, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 steals. He also scored 18 points to help his team to two victories. Johnson, a week earlier, was named Player of the Week.

Also recognized Monday were Howard's Eugene Myatt, who was named Player of the Week and Kevin Thompson of Morgan State, selected as the Rookie of the Week

          Two Bulldogs received honorable mention for their play – Senior center Josh Johnson, who averaged 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in the two games, and freshman guard Jimmy Williams, who averaged 11 points 3.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists for the Bulldogs. The Dublin, Ga. Native had 15 points on 7-9 shooting in SC State's 69-61 victory over Coppin State Saturday.
