ORANGEBURG, SC – The South Carolina State women's track team has signed two prospects to national letters, the school announced on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009.
Inking pacts with the Lady Bulldogs were sprinter Erin Oliver (Stone Mountain, GA/Redan HS) and jumper/hurdler Tamala Daley (Stone Mountain, GA/Redan HS).
Oliver will compete in the long sprints for SC State, according SC State head track coach Tyree Price. Oliver's personal best in the 400 meters is 57.23, and she has been clocked at 2:17.03 in the 800-meter run.
Daley will compete primarily in jumps but will also participate in the hurdles. She has a personal best mark of 19'3½ in the long jump and was ranked 38th in the nation in the event during the 2007-08 season.
Both Oliver and Daley should have an immediate impact on the program, according to Bulldogs head track coach Tyree Price.
“Oliver will provide the team with versatility in the long sprints,” said Price, who is in his second season at his alma mater. “She has a solid range from 200 meters to 800 meters.”
Daley's impact, according to Price, will be equally as integral.
“Daley will add a new dimension of athleticism to our program,” he said. “She will not only participate in the jumps but also compete in the heptathlon.”
Price said he was pleased with the recruiting efforts thus far.
“We are proud of the recruiting we have done thus far and look forward to more additions to our program. We plan to address our short sprints, hurdles, jumps, long sprints, and distance during this recruiting period.”
