Orangeburg, SC--The South Carolina State women's softball team dropped its 2009 home-opener, falling to Morgan State University, 0-2 and 2-10, in a non-conference double-header at Lady Bulldog Stadium.
In Game One Jaclyn Hall scored Morgan State's (4-2) first run off a RBI single by Hannah Montgomery in the top of the second. The Lady Bears second run came off a suicide squeeze in the top of the fifth by Hall that brought in Kriston Gowan. SC State (0-6) left the tying runs stranded on second and third in the bottom of the seventh, thus giving Morgan State the 2-0 victory.
In Game Two SC State got on the scoreboard first as Epiphany Davis drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the first that brought in Krystal Anthony. Morgan State then put up three runs in top of third and six runs in the fifth to go ahead of the Lady Bulldogs 9-1. SC State scored its second run in the bottom of the fifth and the Lady Bears put up one additional run in the top of the sixth to secure the 10-2 victory.
Megan Johnson was the winner in Game One and Carolyn Howard picked up the win in Game Two for the Lady Bears. Kimberlee Pereira was the losing pitcher in both Games One and Two for the Lady Bulldogs.
South Carolina State will return back to action Tuesday, Feb. 24 when they host Oakland University (Michigan). First pitch of the double-header is set for 1 p.m. at the Lady Bulldog Field on the campus of SC State.
