Orangeburg, SC—SC State dropped a tough match to Florida A&M University, 3-1, (21-25, 25-18, 20-25, 14-25), in its 2009 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opener in Dukes Gymnasium on the campus of SC State. With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fall to 6-13 overall and 0-1 in the MEAC, while the Lady Rattlers improved to 4-7 overall and 1-0 in the MEAC.
Junior Jarne Gleaton led the way for the SC State as she recorded her first double-double of the season with, 10 kills and 10 digs. Senior Linnie Garrett and freshman Elizabeth Webb each contributed nine kills while senior Brittany Davis had eight total blocks (1 block solo-7 block assists) in the loss. The Lady Bulldogs was led defensively by sophomore Lauren Harris with a season-high 17 digs.
Florida A&M was led by Jovana Blazeski who recorded a double-double, 17 kills and 13 digs. The Lady Rattlers had three players to record double-digit kills; Maria Gomez (14) and Pamela Barrera (11) and Blazeski. Jessica Bond put up a game-high 40 assists while Susan Egoavil and picked up a game-high 18 defensive digs in the victory.
The Lady Bulldogs will look to get back to winning ways, this Friday, Oct. 9 when they host Savannah State University in a non-conference match-up. First serve of the match is set for 6 p.m. in Dukes Gymnasium on the campus of SC State.
