SC State Defeat Norfolk, 3-1, in Women’s Volleyball

Lady Bulldogs Picks Up First Conference Win of the Season

Norfolk, VA—The SC State women's volleyball team defeated Norfolk State, 3-1, (22-25, 26-24, 27-25, 25-23) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match-up in Gill Gymnasium on the campus of Norfolk State. Tonight's victory marks the first conference win of the 2009 season for the Lady Bulldogs.
 
Junior Jarne Gleaton and sophomore Bria Brimmer each recorded a double-double for SC State. Gleaton put down 12 kills with 10 digs while Brimmer put up a game-high 34 set assists and 13 digs in the victory. Freshman E. Paige Webb contributed eight kills and six digs as SC State improved to 8-14 overall and 1-2 in the MEAC.
 
Charlotte Armstead and Chynna Blaker put down eight kills each to lead the Norfolk State offensively. Defensively, Tracey Copley and Solange Honore had 15 and 11 digs respectively, as the Spartans fell to 4-18 overall and 1-2 in the MEAC.
 
SC State will return to action this Sunday, Oct. 18 when they host the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University at 1 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs will then host Coastal Carolina on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. in its Breast Cancer Awareness Game. Sunday's match-up will be played in Dukes Gymnasium while Tuesday's game will be played in the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
