SC State Falls to USC-Upstate in its Final Non-Conference Game of the Season

Spartanburg, SC—The SC State women's basketball team fell to USC-Upstate, 80-90, in its final non-conference game of the season. The game was contested at the G.B. Hodge Center on the campus of USC-Upstate in Spartanburg, SC.

10 ties. Neither team could gain complete control until late when the Spartans managed to take a two-point lead, 76-74, with 3:36 remaining and never relinquishing it and eventually going on to secure the 10 point victory.
 
“I saw some positive things from the team tonight which is good as we enter conference play,” said first year head coach Doug Robertson.
 
Senior Marie Reid scored a team-and-season high, 30 points and junior Sophilia Hipps eclipsed the 20 point mark for the fifth time this season as she scored 26 in the loss. With the loss the Lady Bulldogs fell to 3-8 on the season. 
 
Kendra Wallace scored a game-high 31 points as the Spartans improved to 6-6 on the season.
 
The Lady Bulldogs will open its conference play this Saturday, Jan. 10 when they travel to Dover, DE to take on the Lady Hornets of Delaware State. This will be the first of four road conference games as SC State is slated to face the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (Jan. 12), Hampton University (Jan. 17) and Howard University (Jan. 19) before returning to the Smith Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center on Jan. 24.
 
Game Notes: For the first time in five games the Lady Bulldogs had three players to score in double-figures as Kristin Johnson scored 13 in addition to Reid and Hipps...SC State had 50 points in the paint and 23 points off turnovers.
