ATLANTA, GA – South Carolina State carded a team total of 289 to lead defending champion Bethune-Cookman by one stroke after the opening round of the Black College Invitational Golf Championship at the Brown Mill's Golf Course. The Wildcats had an 18-hole total of 290.
Junior Hector Arroyave of Celaya, Mexico, fired a 3-under par 69 to lead the Bulldogs, who also got a 1-under 71 from sophomore John Jones of North Augusta and an even-par 72 from senior Robert Biggers of Orlando.
Also competing for Coach Herman Belton, who is in his first season as men's head coach for the Bulldogs, are freshmnn Roberto Cacho of Morelos, Mexico, who had a 5-over par 77, and Alex Bernadini, a freshman also of Morelos, who had an 81.
The final round of the 36-hole event gets underway Sunday at 9 a.m.
