Baton Rouge, LA (Sept. 23)—The SC State women's volleyball team defeated Southern University, 3-1, (25-22, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20), in a non-conference match-up in Baton Rouge, LA.
Despite dropping the first set, 22-25, the Lady Bulldogs fought back in convincing fashion holding the Jaguars to just 19 points in set two. SC State carried its momentum into the next two sets, defeating Southern 25-20 in both sets three and four to secure the three-games-to-one victory.

put down 15 kills with seven digs and two-block assists. The Lady Bulldogs had three players to record double-digit kills as sophomore Jarne Gleaton (5-11, outside hitter, West Columbia, SC/Airport High School) and freshman Shabree Roberson (5-11, middle blocker, Pflugerville, TX/Connally HS) each put down 12 kills. Gleaton recorded a double-double as she added 10 digs in the victory.
Ena Payne led the way offensively for Southern with a game-high 17 kills while Lourena Beathly led the way defensively with 13 digs.
With the victory SC State improved to 3-13 overall while Southern dropped to 0-5 on the season.
The Lady Bulldog will travel to Durham, NC this Friday-Saturday, Sept. 26-27, to participate in their final tournament of the 2008 season at North Carolina Central University. SC State will open the tournament on Friday at 10 a.m. versus Alabama State University. The Lady Bulldogs will then face host North Carolina Central at 7 p.m. in its second contest of the day. SC State will face Hampton University at 12 noon on Saturday before closing out the tournament against Houston Baptist at 4 p.m. Saturday.
