Arlington, TX—The SC State women's volleyball team (1-8), fell to the number 13 ranked Middle Tennessee State (7-0), 0-3, (16-25, 11-25, 18-25) on day one of the University of Texas-Arlington (UTA) Hilton Invitational in Texas Hall on the campus of UTA.
Despite playing a nationally ranked team, SC State came out in Set One with tenacity as they stayed within three points of Middle Tennessee for much of the first set. Middle Tennessee would put its offense in motion taking the first set 16-25. Set Two was all Middle Tennessee, as they jumped out to a 10-3 lead and eventually take Set Two, 11-25. In Set Three the Lady Bulldogs appeared to have their offense back on track as they exchange points for the first six points of the set. SC State would manage to keep Middle Tennessee within arm reach until the Blue Raiders went up 13-8 and never looked back, eventually taking Set Three, 18-25.
Gisela Klöss led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with nine kills, Bria Brimmer put up 14 set assists while Lauren Harris picked up seven digs in the loss.
Izabela Kozon had 12 kills while Leslie Clark put 32 assists in the victory for the Blue Raiders.
SC State face Duke, Saturday, Sept. 13 at 12 noon and will close out the tournament versus host UT-A at 5 p.m. Saturday.
