SC State Goes 0-2 the final day of the Tiny Laster Memorial Tournament

Hampton, VA--The SC  State volleyball team went 0-2 on the final day of the Hampton University Tiny Laster Memorial Tournament in Hampton, Va. SC State finished 1-3 in its 2008 opening weekend.
 
In its first match of the day, SC State fell to Canisius, 0-3, (14-25, 14-25, 14-25). Freshman Peri Ligons and sophomore Jarne Gleaton led the way in the match for the Lady Bulldogs with six kills. Senior Laura Waters-Brown and junior Linnie Garrett were solid defensively for SC State recording three block-assists each.
 
Morgan Ammons and Michelle Godfrey led all attackers for the match with eight kills each.
In its final game of the tournament SC State fell to fellow MEAC Foe Delaware State, 3-0, (23-25, 23-25, 16-25). Garrett, led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with 10 kills. Gleaton contributed eight kills and Ligons continued to play consistently with six kills and seven digs in the loss.
 
Cassandra Joyner and Erica Tajchman recorded double-digit kills to lead the Lady Hornets with 13 and 10 respectively.
 
Freshman Bria Brimmer (Setter, Austin, TX/Connally HS) was named to the All-Tournament team after recording 14 kills, 20 digs, 1 block assist and 105 sets over the weekend.
 
SC State will return to action next weekend, Friday-Saturday, Sept. 5-6, when they travel to High Point, NC to participate in the High Point Radisson Invitational.
