BALTIMORE, MD -- The South Carolina State women finished seventh and the men eleventh at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships which concluded Saturday at Hughes Stadium on the campus of Morgan State.
The Lady Bulldogs recorded one second-place finish, two third-place showings and were fifth in two other events enroute to amassing 38.5 points. The SC State men had two fourth-place showings on Saturday and totaled 21 points for the championship.
The Hampton women had 113 points to win their sixth straight title, while the Norfolk State men amassed 162 points to capture their third consecutive crown.
Tempest Vance led the way for the Lady Bulldogs Saturday with a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles in a season-best time of 100.12. Vance has already qualified for the upcoming NCAA Regionals.
Jasmine Smith was third in the triple jump with a leap of 12.09 meters (39-08 ft), a personal record, while Ashley Maddox finished third in the high jump with a leap of 169 meters (5-06.50 ft).
Other high finishes for the SC State women were a fifth in the high jump by freshman Shaneka Lee with a leap of 5-02.50 and a fifth by Renee McWilliams in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.30.
The Lady Bulldog 4x100-meter relay team of Yolanda Hardy, Vance, Elizabeth Govrik and McWilliams also recorded a fifth place with a time of 46.91, while the 4x400-meter relay squad of Natalee Allen, Vance, Govrik and McWilliams was seventh with a time of 3:48.31.
In the men's competition, Bulldog quarter miler Garrett Blakely was fourth in the 400 meters in a time of 46.96, while Jahwaun Blair also recorded a fourth in the javelin with a toss of 47.30 meters (155-02 ft).
Earlier, SC State's Kristi Foster was third in the javelin, Lee was seventh in the women's heptathlon and Blair and Brian Coleman were fourth and eighth, respectively, in the discus.
