ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State men's basketball coach Tim Carter, Tuesday (May 20) announced the signing of seven prospects to national letters of intent.
Carter, who begins his second season at the helm of the Bulldog program, listed the signees as Jimmy Williams Jr., 6'4 East Laurens High School, Dublin, GA (2008 Heart of GA player of the year, 2008 2A GA player of the year, 15 ppg, 9 rpg, 11 apg, played on the GA All-Star Team); Kiara Douglas, 6'7, Darlington HS, Darlington, SC. (2007 and 2008 1st Team All-State, 20 ppg, 11 rpg); Arsenio Williams, 6'5, Fort Scott (KS) Community College (FSCC All-time leading scorer and rebound --1142 pts. and 595 rebs., 1st Team all Jayhawk, Led conference in scoring, 22 ppg, named National JUCO Player of the Week); Brandon Smalls, 6'5, Harcum (PA)Community College, North Charleston, SC native (NJCAA Region 19 First Team, 20 ppg, led Harcum in steals and three point field goals made; Charles Belton, 6'4, Coastal Georgia Community College (11 ppg, 7 rpg, selected to play in the 2008 Georgia/Florida Junior College All American game); Kensha Johnson, 6'1, Coastal Georgia Community College, 10 ppg, 5 rpg, 7 apg, led conference in assist in 2007-08); and Jamaal Day, 6'2, Wilkerson County (GA) High School, 2008 lst team Class A All-Star selection, 2nd team All-State, 17 ppg, 10 rpg.
An eighth new face will also be on the 2008-09 Bulldog squad in the person of College of Charleston transfer Josh Jackson, who sat out the 2007-08 campaign.
Carter also announced that four players decided to leave the program – guard Thomas Bookman, forwards Everett Spencer and Chris Miller-Williams, and center Dale Carn.
