WINSTON-SALEM, NC – South Carolina State men's golf team is in first place after 18 holes at the two-day (Mar. 17-18), 36-hole Winston-Salem State Golf Invitational at the par 71, 6214-yard Winston-Lake Golf Course.
The Bulldogs, led by senior Cory Jozefiak and sophomore Hector Arroyave, carded a team total of 328 (+44) to grab the first-round lead in the five-team event, which culminates Tuesday with the final 18 holes.
Jozefiak had a 7-over par 78 on Monday, third in the individual competition behind Enobong of Johnson C. Smith who carded a 5-over par 76 and Chris Winters of North Carolina Central, who had a 77.
Jozefiak was followed by Arroyave for the Bulldogs with an 8-over par 79 and a two-way tie for fourth, then came senior Aaron Robinson, who had an 85, 14-over par, and Matt Gilliard, one stroke back with an 86. Also competing for Coach Richard Arrington's team was Robert Biggers who carded an 88.
Trailing the Bulldogs in the team standings were Hampton, which had a 346 (+62), host Winston-Salem at 348 (+64), NC Central at 389 (+105) and J. C. Smith at 390 (+106).
