SC State Falls to Furman in Womens Basketball

Greenville, SC—Marie Reid scored a game-high 16 points and pulled in six rebounds as SC State fell to Furman, 71-45, in non-conference match-up at Timmons Arena in Greenville, SC.

SC State, (0-2), scored quickly as Reid hit a layup with just seven seconds off the clock. Furman quickly rebounded, scoring the next six points over three minutes and continued to move forward. The Paladins jumped out to a 16 point lead with just over five minutes left in the first half and took a 21 point lead into the locker-room at the half, 38-17.

The Paladins (3-0) increased its lead to 31, 57-26, before the Lady Bulldogs put their offense into motion. SC State put together a 10-2 run midway through the second half but that would not be enough, dropping the 71-45 decision.

Brittany Gillispie and Kristen Johnson game off the bench for the Lady Bulldogs to contribute five points each in the loss.

The Paladins had four players to score in double-figures led by Lee Stephens with 15. Melissa Liebschwager and Kali Holtfreter scored 14 and Susan Troutman contributed 11 points. Sarah Baker pulled in a game-high 11 rebounds in the victory.

SC State will be back in action next Tuesday, Nov. 25 when they travel to Boiling Spring, NC to take on Gardner-Webb in the third of four road games. The Lady Bulldogs will close out its road swing on Wednesday, Dec. 3 when they travel to Charleston, SC to take on Charleston Southern.

Game Notes: SC State shot 28% from the field, 25% from the three-point range and 53.3% from the charity stripe…Furman shot 45% from the field, 45% from three-point range and 83% from the free-throw line.
