SC State Defeats Norfolk State in Womens Volleyball

Lady Bulldogs Wins Fourth Straight Conference Match

Orangeburg, SC—Sophomore Jarne Gleaton recorded a game-high 15 kills and freshman Bria Brimmer put up a game-high 40 assists as the SC State women's volleyball team defeated Norfolk State 3-1 (25-22, 32-34, 26-24, 25-18) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match-up in Dukes

Gymnasium on the campus of SC State. This victory marks the second time this season that the Lady Bulldogs has defeated the Spartans.
SC State (10-18, 4-2 MEAC) and Norfolk State (9-21, 3-4 MEAC) split the first two sets of the match with the Lady Bulldogs winning Set One 25-22, and the Spartans winning Set Two, 34-32.
Set three appeared to belong to Norfolk State as they went up on SC State by as much as six late in the set (21-15). The Lady Bulldogs put their offense into motion going on a 7-1 run to tie the set at 22. The teams exchanged points over the next few serves until the Lady Bulldogs earned two points in a row to secure a 26-24 win in Set Three.
SC State dominated Set Four as they jumped out to a 5-1 lead and never looked back. The Lady Bulldogs would go on to win the set 25-18 and securing the match 3-1.
            The Lady Bulldogs had three players to record double-digit kills as Shabree Roberson put down 12; Peri Ligons recorded 11 and Gleaton. Gleaton and Ligons also recorded double-digit digs with 12 and 13 respectively.
            Yolanda Roberts and Breanna Allums recorded double-digit kills for Norfolk State with 13 and 12 respectively. The Spartans had four players to record double-digit digs: Allums (15) Solange Honore (11) and Aurelia Isham and Nicole Kessner with 10 each.
            SC State will return back to action tomorrow, Oct. 23, when they travel up Interstate 26 to take on the Gamecocks of the University of South Carolina. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m.
            The Lady Bulldogs will then travel to Winston-Salem, NC on Sunday, Oct. 26 to take on Winston-Salem State before returning home on Friday, Oct. 31 to host Bethune-Cookman University.
 
Game Notes: Freshman Libero Lauren Harris picked up a game-high 18 digs in the victory.
