ORANGEBURG, SC – Quarterback Cleveland McCoy, defensive back Markee Hamlin and running back Will Ford earned the top superlative awards for the 2007 South Carolina State football team. The three, along with other Bulldog players were honored Saturday during the Orangeburg Touchdown Club's annual banquet, which also recognized an All-State Football Team and featured retired Air Force head coach Fisher DeBerry as the speaker.
McCoy, who received his degree from SC State in December, was named the offensive MVP, Hamlin earned defensive MVP accolades, and Ford the MVP running back.
A Hollywood, SC native, McCoy set three career passing records for the Bulldogs, Ford rushed for over 1,300 yards in 2007 and Hamlin led the defense with five interceptions and 63 tackles, including a team-high 39 unassisted.
Coach Buddy Pough and his staff also saluted SC State's 16 seniors and other players who garnered postseason honors, including four who was recognized as All-State by the touchdown club.
